Justin Berg

Bio

Justin Berg has taught English and Linguistics for 15 years, beginning with 13 years at domestic and international high schools and universities in China. In 2019, he served as the first Director of Language Studies for Tianjin Juilliard, China, where he designed a curriculum of language instruction tailored to the needs of music students. He later joined the University of Nottingham Ningbo as an academic writing and linguistics instructor. Since returning to the U.S. in 2022, he has taught ESL at Alamance Community College and led writing workshops for Duke students studying History 260: Magic, Religion and Science since 1400. In addition to graduate degrees in music performance and Musicology from Oberlin, Notre Dame and Duke, Justin holds an MA and Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics from the University of Nottingham with specializations in academic writing, corpus linguistics, discourse analysis, learner needs analysis, and second/foreign language acquisition. He is the recipient of the City of Ningbo’s Camellia Flower Award for contributions to education, as well as the University of Nottingham’s Liberal Arts Award and Vice-Chancellor’s Medal.
