Catherine C. Madden

Bio

Cate Madden serves the Intensive English Program as the director and is a proud member of the NC State Wolfpack. She has worked in the field of ESL both as a teacher and program administrator for more than 30 years. Before moving to North Carolina, Ms. Madden worked with the English & Certificates Program for Internationals at the University of California-Irvine as the director of academic affairs. Once in North Carolina, Ms. Madden held the position of ESL coordinator for the Durham Public Schools and later served as an ESL program coordinator in Wake Tech’s Basic Skills Program and has been with the IEP at NC State since its inception.  In the classroom, she has had the privilege of teaching all skills involved in English language learning to all types of language learners including bilingual elementary children, university-bound internationals and business executives from around the world. One of her most interesting experiences was being selected to tutor the Chinese actor, (Li Lianjie) Jet Li. Ms. Madden volunteers with TESOL, NAFSA, and EnglishUSA as a reviewer for national conference proposals within the field of ESL.  She has presented at EnglishUSA, NCAIE and Carolina TESOL conferences on the topics of language assessment and professional development and is currently a member of the Global Training Initiative’s English Language Training program working with over 100 teachers in Azerbaijan.
