Courses for Visiting Scholars

Each fall and spring semester, the Intensive English Program offers visiting scholars at NC State University a FREE 10-week conversation skills class and a 10-week writing skills class for a small fee. Beginning Spring 2019, part-time enrollment in the regular IEP courses is available to NC State Visiting Scholars, their spouses, and dependents (18+) as well as the spouses and dependents (18+) of international students.

Visiting Scholars Program

Conversation Skills for Visiting Scholars

In this 10-week course, students will have an opportunity to sharpen their English conversation skills and explore topics relating to American culture.

Spring 2019 Schedule

Option 1: Wednesday, 4:00 – 5:00 PM (maximum of 20 students)
Option 2: Wednesday, 5:30 – 6:30 PM (maximum of 20 students)

End Date: Wednesday, April 10, 2019
No Class: March 13, 2019
Length of Course: 10 weeks
Cost: FREE


Please choose ONE class to sign up for depending on which is more convenient for your personal schedule.

Please note: if you miss 2 or more classes, your spot will be given to another scholar. ONLY if there is additional space available, we will open the classes up to visiting scholars who would like to take both conversation classes. 



Writing Skills for Visiting Scholars

In this course, you will work on sharpening your writing skills while reviewing key points in advanced English grammar usage. Since writing is a time-intensive skill, this course will be limited to a maximum of 17 students.
