Introduction to Academic English

This online course is specifically designed for our lower-scoring program applicants as preparation for beginning in-person classes with the Intensive English Program (IEP) at NC State University.  If you are a full-time IEP applicant, a visiting scholar preparing to travel to Raleigh, or a low-intermediate English language student wanting to improve your language skills prior to visiting the Triangle area of North Carolina – THIS COURSE IS FOR YOU.

INTRODUCTION TO ACADEMIC ENGLISH  will give you an opportunity to practice all language skills online – writing, reading, speaking, and listening.  You will meet with one of our long-time professional English language instructors and future IEP classmates via Zoom 4 days a week for 90 minutes each day.  In addition to these informative and interactive lessons, you will work on assignments/projects outside of class as well.  Plan on spending about 10-12 hours a week of classwork (synchronous + asynchronous) for a total of 90-100 hours of English practice. This course is a wonderful way to acclimate your ear to the American accent, increase your confidence, and get used to the academic expectations of the IEP – all from the comfort of your home.
